Poor Luci, she is a 15 year old English schoolgirl about to embark on a promising career as the high-school mattress when she comes home one day from school to find her Mum as dead as a door knob in the tub. You see her Mum has cut her wrists after a long unrewarding career as the town mattress. Fortunately for Luci, her Mum's childhood friend is now a very successful upper-middle class doctor who has decided to take Luci home to his family (on a trial basis). Luci's new family (The Quayles) has a few issues. The father's libedo is on the wane and he has a stick permanently stuck up his butt. The mother was "convent schooled" and misses the good old days of snuggling up with a pretty young girl. The son is an amateur peeper without the libedo problem but also with a stick up his butt. Luci arrives in the midst of all this with her one suitcase, a bit unbalanced from her mother's recent suicide, and does everything she can to fit in with her new family - more or less. There isn't a whole lot of nudity or explicit sex. I've read that the film was originally given an "X" rating but don't let that fool you. This was 1968. Many films which would barely make an "R" rating today got an X in those days. In any event, it was released on video in the 1980s with an "R" rating and the copyright was abandoned in the U.S. in the mid 1990's. The video is "Deleted" in England. This is probably as "uncut" a version as one is likely to find. According to IMDB it is 3 minutes longer than the theatrical release and a couple of minutes shorter than the Brazilian release. And now for a couple of screen shots:

YouTube is requesting a Certificate for this film!
I need a certificate for this film. YouTube is demanding it as they do not believe the info in the Archive. I want to Monetize the film but they won't let me unless I can produce a Certificate OR a signature of the film's 'OWNER'! How daft is that?
This is not the first time I have been asked for a certificate!
Ugh.
I like this film!

Lately this web site has only yielded unviewable films and that sucks. I am leaving this mess.

My, what a little teasers she is. And what about mummy, can any women be more frustrated. But she does love to cuddle. Alas I thought the hero in the movie would be the young punk, but no he comes along and ruins the theater scene for me. Dad isn't wrapped to tight either, and gets forked for his little heart to heart talks. Also I Can't image what young buck would kick a girl out of the shower. I won't ruin the rest for you guys, but worth a watch "Oh Well"

Several of the actors and actresses in this film would have attracted serious interest in the late 1960's when the film was made. Diana Dors, Sheila Steafel, Dick Emery - and a few others - had legitimate reputations both onstage and in TV and film.
Alistair Reed had made a handful of important 'issue' TV features before producing this. And Linda Hayden - once she was of age - would become the standard female lead for the 'Confessions ...' series of classic softcore porn.
Producer Guido Coen had a history of finding stories which trod the line between genuine social issues and opportunities for prurient sleazing, and then finding respectable actors and good directors and scriptwriters to produce a film which shows you lots of T&A, but also has you leave the theatre feeling uneasy about political concerns of the day.
All of Coen's films are interesting - though all of them are more the monument to a good film that might have been, rather than an actual success.
In the late 1960's directors and audiences probably thought you could make a skinflick which was also valid art; perhaps this was over optimistic.

A very interesting film indeed. The only trouble I have with the movie is the fact that Linda Hayden was only 15 years old during production and some of her scenes are a bit "risque" to say the least. However the cast are excellent and the film is very well made. Well done to the Director!
There is an earlier comment suggesting this movie shows the "underbelly of America"?? well this comment is completely out of context as the film was clearly made in Britain about British characters! so I cant imagine what film the auther of that review was actually watching??

Alastair Reid, Screen Maestro
Baby Love is the work of a genius of television and cinema, Alastair Reid who has now achieved something of a cult status on both sides of the Atlantic. His on-screen CV is mightily impressive, dating back to the mid Sixties and the golden age of British television. Why, oh why,is this splendid, cutting edge movie not (to the very best of my knowledge) available on DVD? But - I grant you - I'm somewhat biased with regard to the aforementioned Alastair Reid. You see, he's my elder brother !

This is a decent film, it's certainly not an X rated movie in today's culture. I can see why it was considered so risque in 1968. I found the film to be an interesting look at what life was like forty some-odd years ago in the under belly of America.
